When Pier Giorgio Frassati was called from this earthly life on July 4, 1925, a maid in the Frassati home wrote on the kitchen calendar: "He was a saint and God wanted him with himself!" The enormous crowd that filled the streets on the day of his funeral revealed how accurate the maid's description would turn out to be. It wasn't long before the formal process would get underway.
In 1938, a Vatican decree allowed the cause to move forward for Servant of God Frassati. There were some hiccups along the way and it wasn't until 1987 that he was declared Venerable.
